Honey Badger Video!

My friend Toby recorded ‘Honey Badger’ for me! It’s available to watch on youtube :)

HONEY BADGER

A small excerpt from a new poem - “Antebellum”

It was a small boat,

the portrait of twenty six years.

     Jewelled chrysanthemums spending

     across knots of gilded coralline alburnum;

     matching mouths formless upon water,

     like cracked glass.

     A sharp prow delivering blue

     from blue

I’ll be performing this, and other pieces, at the TakeOver Festival’s Spoken Word night tonight at the Theatre Royal in York. Website: HERE

This is my dream. I will print this picture out and put it on my wall, and then I will achieve it.

Speed Reading - How do you compare?

Someone passed this along to me. It’s the Staples Speed Reading test. I don’t think I did too shabbily! Be interested to find out how other people do (no cheating, obv, hehe) :)

Clare Neruda's Reading Speed

Sunday 27/05 - 12:58

I’ve titled the new piece ‘Antebellum’. For those of you who can’t be fucked to find out what that means, it translates from the Latin as ‘pre-war’ and is usually used to describe the period in American history directly preceding the Civil War. Not that that’s what the poem is about.

I’m in conflict today because there’s a part of me who wants to stay on Tumblr, laugh at all the bitchiness and stupidity, fix my hair, smoke cigarettes and waste the rest of the day. There’s another, more assiduous, part of me who insists that I get back to work because I have a performance tomorrow.

[sarcasm] Conflict, sigh, so fucking tragic [/sarcasm ]

An oldie but a goodie. I saw (and performed in front of) Ross Sutherland earlier this year and was howling in laughter at this piece. Top bloke, great set and if you don’t watch this you’re mad

Take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.

I don’t love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz,
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as one loves certain obscure things,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom but carries
the light of those flowers, hidden, within…
